  • Small songbird
  • Olive brown back
  • White underside with dark streaks
  • White eyering
  • Dark crown stripes with orangish center
  • 6" (15 cm.)

Habitat

  • Deciduous and mixed forest

Additional Information

  • Common migrant, uncommon
         summer resident southern WI
  • Abundant KVR breeding bird
  • Requires large expanses of mature forest
         for successful breeding
  • Feeds and nests on the ground
  • Distinctive song "teacher, teacher, teacher", with increasing volume
  • Name comes from its enclosed
         dome-shaped nest with side entrance
