  • Brown above, white below
  • White stripe above eye
  • Two black neck stripes
  • 10.5" (27 cm.)

Habitat

  • Rivers and wetlands
  • In nesting season, often heavily-used
         areas like ball fields, roadsides,
         gardens, and flat graveled rooftops

Additional Information

  • Common summer resident and migrant
  • A shorebird not restricted to areas near water
  • Very vocal, calls its name "kill-dee"
  • Parent may do a broken-wing act to lure
         intruders from nest site
