  • Large grey bird with long dark legs
  • Bare red skin above eyes
  • Long beak
  • Brownish body coloring on adults during
         breeding season
  • 37" (94 cm.)

Habitat

  • Marsh for nesting and roosting
  • Meadows and fields for foraging

Additional Information

  • Common migrant and summer resident
  • Breeding adults give a loud unison
         call early mornings
  • Cranes in Wisconsin have recovered
         from drastic population decline
