  • Medium size
  • Brown camouflage colors
  • Large head

Habitat

  • Deciduous woodland with little underbrush

Additional Information

  • Increasingly rare migrant, summer resident
  • Wisconsin species of special concern
  • Rarely seen, most often heard calling
  • Call is a high, loud whistle with a
         "whip-poor-will" sound, accent on "will"
  • Insect eater --forages at dusk, dawn,
         and in moonlight
  • Ground nester
