Double-crested Cormorant - (Phalacrocorax auritus)
Identification
- Large blackish water bird
- Long neck, short legs, webbed feet, swims
- Medium-sized straight bill, hooked at tip
- Bare orangish skin on face near beak
Habitat
Additional Information
- Fairly common migrant
- Often perches with wings spread to dry
- Nests in colonies, often in dead trees over
water or on islands - Very low populations in the 70's
- Fish eater
