  • Down-curved black bill
  • Long tail with small pale spots
  • 11" (28 cm.)

Habitat

  • Deciduous forest,
  • Brushy woodland edges

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and
         summer resident
  • Wisconsin species of special concern
  • Population in decline
  • Secretive, more often heard than seen
  • Breeding onset tied to food supply of caterpillars
  • Builds nests less than 3 meters 
         off the ground
