Identification

  • Medium size dabbling duck
  • Light colored bill with black tip
  • Males: white patch on forehead, and on front part on inner wing, grey cheek, green
          patch on head
  • Females: grey head and neck,
          otherwise predominant brown color

Habitat

  • Marsh, ponds, lakes

Additional Information

  • Formerly called Baldpate
  • Occasional visitor to Europe
  • A regular migrant through the Reserve
