Tundra Swan - (Cygnus columbianus)

Identification

  • Huge white bird with long neck
  • Juveniles are grey
  • Black bill, sometimes with yellow spot in front of eye 
  • 52" (120-147 cm.) 

Habitat

  • Ponds, lakes, large rivers

Additional Information 

  • Formerly called Whistling Swan
  • Large flocks seen and heard overhead while on migration 
  • Nests far to the north in tundra areas of Canada and Alaska
  • Tundra Swan has no black in wings
