  • Very small
  • Iridescent green above, white or
         greyish white below
  • Long, thin bill
  • Male has brilliant ruby throat, female has
         white throat
  • 3.75" (10 cm.)

Habitat

  • Woodland
  • Residential areas

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and summer resident
  • Makes humming sound with wings,
  • Can fly backwards
  • Has extremely fast wing beat
  • Eats insects, flower nectar, tree sap, and
        
    sugar water at feeders
  • Pollinates many flowers
