Identification

  • Small songbird
  • Plain olive above, yellow below
  • Grey head and cheeks
  • Prominent white eye-ring
  • Thin bill
  • Female has duller plumage
  • 4.75" (12 cm.)

Habitat

  • Jack pine forests, conifer swamps,
         second growth forests with shrubby
         undergrowth
  • During migration found in a variety of
         wooded habitats

Additional Information

  • Common migrant, rare summer breeder
         in southern WI
  • Nests on the ground
  • Often found with other warbler species in
        migration
  • Rare breeding bird on the Reserve
