  • One of our larger flycatchers
  • Dark grey above, white below
  • Black head, white throat
  • White band at edge of tail
  • 8.5" (22 cm.)


  • Open woodland, forest edge,
  • Pastures, farmsteads

Additional Information

  • Common migrant and summer resident
  • Likes more open habitats than most
         other flycatchers
  • Eats flying insects during summer,
         also eats some seeds and fruits
  • Raises one brood per year
  • Sometimes aggressive toward other
         birds, including birds as large as
         Crows and Red-tailed Hawks
