Eastern Bluebird  - (Sialia sialis) 



  • Small songbird
  • Male is medium to dark blue above
  • Rusty red neck, sides and breast, white belly
  • Female is similar but drabber
  • 7" (18 cm.)


  • Open areas with some trees
  • Needs tree cavity for nesting

Additional Information

  • Fairly common migrant and summer resident
  • Occasionally found in winter
  • Gives "churry" call in flight
  • Male sings sweet warbly whistle
  • Appears slightly hunched while perching
  • Readily uses nest boxes
