  • 30-43 inches (76-100 cm.)
  • Varying sizes of subspecies


  • Wetlands, ponds, lakes
  • Upland fields for foraging

Additional Information

  • Common resident in spring, summer, and fall
  • May linger into winter if there is open water
  • Family groups travel together for almost a year
  • Nest activity begins in early April
