Baltimore Oriole - (Icterus galbula) 



  • Medium-sized songbird
  • Male has black head, bill, wings, back and
    tail; bright orange breast underparts,
         rump, and outer corners of tail
  • Female duller with brownish-olive head
         and back, pale "washed out" orange
         underparts, two dull white wingbars
  • 7-8" (18-21 cm.)


  • Deciduous forests, residential areas
  • Open areas with tall trees

Additional Information

  • Common migrant and summer resident
  • Builds long, woven, hanging nest at
         end of small branch
